When we first moved into the house, I would hold my breath when I heard the click of the powder room door. I had warned the children that they would be better served by one of the other three bathrooms (translation, don’t wreck the most glamorous space in the house with your sticky fingers). Alas, they seem to be drawn to this room like a magnet, and my irrational stance has mellowed over time. I think the dramatic pattern of the wallpaper serves to mask all the inadvertent splashes, marks and spills.
In the initial stages, as I contemplated this room with Trevor and Curtis of Atmosphere, I was unsure of the feel I wanted to capture. Much of the house is airy and modern, yet they proposed that we use the powder room to increase the glamour quotient. As the selections and designs ensued, the reveal of this small space became the most anticipated over the course of the house build. The central piece of the room is the custom vanity designed by Atmosphere. The vanity, built by my amazing cabinet makers Redl Kitchens is comprised of two laquered black drawers encased in a walnut cabinet with a black Ceasarstone counter. The base is a curved chrome piece fashioned by Dragonfly Artistic Metal of Saskatoon. The marble sink and chrome faucets are by Kohler. The large mirror extends down to the countertop and is flanked by a walnut frame, and two Jonathan Adler Scones. The wallpaper is of course the unmistakeable Imperial Trellis by Kelly Wearstler in a charcoal grey.
Now of course, I am the only family member to refer to this space as the powder room. The kids have labelled it the “medium bathroom”, given its location on the main level, and fight over it, given it’s close proximity to most of our daily activity. I occasionally escape into this room as a respite, the glamour and drama within, a sharp contrast to my ordinary, decidedly unglamorous life.

That is just gorgeous! Love the sink.
