Whenever something new graces my doorstep (or my closet), said object instantly becomes my new favourite piece, forsaking all others. History again repeated itself on Friday upon receipt of a lovely new chaise for the master bedroom. Remember the gold upholstery options I was mulling over, here is the final choice. A vintage gold velvet by Kravat, the darkest of the samples, yet with more variation depending upon the light. The chaise with its high sides is finished with gold nailhead trim in two parallel columns, right over the arms to the other side, and along the base. I am smitten.
I was relieved to see that the chaise had been fully extricated from all packaging material by the time it had arrived at my house. I later learned that it had arrived fully crated and that Trevor and Curtis of Atmosphere now have an office full of plywood and the bandaged hands (perhaps I exaggerate) to prove it. Love that they spared me this detestable task. I hold my breath whenever delivery people attempt to maneuver objects into my house (I will eventually regale you with tales of some disasters I’ve previously endured), particularly when it comes to navigating the stairs. Yet they successfully parlayed the piece into my bedroom and it now rests beneath the window, between the black sheers.
It is the perfect spot to stretch out with a good book, or to try on a pair of shoes. For now I have banished everyone else from using it (specifically the children), as I often do with l’objet du jour. My husband said not to worry, within a couple of weeks, I shall have it strewn with many outfits, thus protecting the upholstery. Ugh, I’m getting better...
Speaking of books, I’m currently reading The Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis, a comedic novel, centered on life in Canadian Federal politics, a perfect choice for election season. Next up is a selection for my book club, Sanctuary Line by Jane Urquart. I’m looking forward to it. Now excuse me as I retire to lounge and read on my new chaise.

OMG... that is super fabulous! I think I need something velvet in my house. Love the nailhead detail too.
